2017 Clinical Trial Statistics and Dynamic

ClinicalTrials.gov – which counts an average of 96,000 unique visitors a day – is the largest database of publicly and privately funded clinical studies conducted worldwide. The number of clinical studies listed on ClinicalTrials.gov website totals to 263,083 as of January 11, 2018.

Dynamics

Since the year 2000 – when published on the ClinicalTrials.gov website for the first time – the number of registered studies grew from 3,904 to 263,373.

Since the year 2008 – when ClinicalTrials.gov initiated its results database, allowing investigators and sponsors to submit results – the number of registered studies with posted results grew from 1,862 in 2010 to 29,637 in 2017.

These databases have been developed to comply with FDAAA requirements for result submission (registered studies with posted results) and ICMJE and FDAAA requirements (registered studies).
